Shimoda Design Group is thrilled to have been selected by Los Angeles Magazine to imagine bold solutions to our city’s homelessness crisis. The challenge was exciting to us as our studio is recognized for finding novel solutions in the pursuit of sustainability and preservation.

To better understand how sustainable design and bold architectural solutions can help solve homelessness, we asked ourselves a series of thought-provoking questions.

  • What if we transformed half of the land currently used for streets into shared living space?
  • What if our dwellings were completely self-sustainable and even generated surplus energy?
  • What if home ownership existed without land ownership?

And many more questions, which can be seen below.

To share what we found, we created a series of comic strips. Each strip shows a fun and creative solution to the problem.
